Respected Sir,
I had a very good experience at KUMC during my 6 months fellowship.
Before the start of my fellowship, the guidance and correspondence with Dr Park and with Miss Lee was much appreciated right from visa application for Korea to the airport pick up. The extensive list of your publications that was given to me for reading before coming to Seoul was intimidating yet inspiring before starting my fellowship.
On arriving at Guro Hospital, meeting you professor was a pleasure and a new beginning to 6 months of learning. It was very nice of Dr Park to show me around the hospital upon my arrival and orient me to the functioning of the department.
The weekly schedule of morning seminars, OPD and OT packed a lot of learning through the day. Although all comminucation with patients was in Korean, will always remember how you used to go out of the way to translate it in English and teach me. Will always remember the finer aspects of post operative outpatient management in Ilizarov that I learnt from you in OPD. I am very thankful to Mr Park also for showing and teaching me how to make adjustments in the LRS and Ilizarov frames.
OR was always something to look forward to. I had a very little exposure to Ilizarov before coming to Korea, so it was a very good learning experience for me. Professor you made Ilizarov look very simple…which I know is far from true. I am glad I had the opportunity to learn a few tips and tricks from you. I can’t thank Dr Park enough for all the guidance, teaching and discussions I have had with him. Assisting and operating with Dr Park was something I would look forward to…for the finesse in his dissection and surgical skills. His academic expertise was very impressive as he could quote articles for every topic.
I can’t thank Dr Park enough for guiding me through research and patiently editing all my manuscript drafts. The residents had been very friendly and helpful all thorough my fellowship. The staff also always did their best to help (always with a smile) inspite of the language barrier.
I was horoured and glad that you gave me the opportunity to present papers in International conferences on your behalf. I hope I dint let you down…
Professor you and Dr Park have been great mentors and it is very difficult for me to sum up my experiences in Korea in a word file. It was a very good learning experience and will cherish these memories forever. Thank you so much for all your hospitality. Hoping to come back to Seoul sometime.
A few suggestions if I must make…only if the morning seminars could be in English. It will benefit the fellows and the residents (help them get fluent with their spoken English). And if you can have a Journal club to discuss published articles, it would probably benefit the fellows and residents.
