"This medical support was the most practical help. Thank you very much."
The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs announced on the 9th that the British Jamboree delegation had expressed their gratitude for the 'Gloucester Medical Center', which is being operated to help with the medical treatment of British scout members who left the 25th World Scout Jamboree campsite and moved to Seoul. The name of the Medical Center was named after the British Army unit (Gloucester Battalion) that participated in the 6.25 War.
The Gloucester Medical Center is located in the first floor lobby of the Dragon City Hotel in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, where the British unit is staying. After Dr. Yoon Jeong-ro, director of New Daesung Hospital, started providing treatment as a volunteer, the number of members visiting increased, so the medical staff from Korea University Anam Hospital also joined. Specialized dermatology treatments such as bug bites and burns requiring urgent treatment, as well as family medicine treatments, are being provided. On the 8th, 23 British Jamboree members and 3 Qatar Jamboree members received treatment, and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs expects more members to visit during the remaining period. The Medical Center, which began providing medical treatment on the 8th, will be open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM until the 11th.
Minister Park Min-shik of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs said, "I hope that the British Jamboree members will feel pride in the dedication of British veterans, their own country, while receiving treatment, and return home with good memories."
In April 1951, the Gloucester Battalion fought fiercely with the Chinese army trying to advance south in Seolmari, Jeokseong-myeon, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do. Out of 652 unit members, 59 were killed in action and 526 were taken prisoner. It was possible to defend Seoul because they held back the Chinese army. As a result, the Gloucester unit was called 'The Glorious Glosters' and received the highest British honor.
On the 8th, the British Jamboree delegation participated in the veterans experience program organized by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, paid tribute at the 'British Army Seolmari Battle Memorial Park' in Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do, and also visited the War Memorial of Korea in Yongsan to commemorate British veterans. The UK dispatched 56,000 people, the second largest number after the US, to the 6.25 War, and more than 1,000 were killed.
