Definition of Dwarfism
1. The primary cause is pathological growth disorder, which refers to cases where there is a disability present from birth, or the child was unable to grow properly in the mother's womb due to any cause.
- Alcohol consumption and smoking during pregnancy
- Skeletal formation disorders: autosomal dominant inheritance (see Causes of Dwarfism)
- Chromosomal abnormalities: Turner syndrome
- Congenital metabolic diseases: protein, carbohydrate, and lipid metabolism disorders
- Others
2. Causes of secondary growth disorders
- Gastrointestinal disorders
- Renal failure
- Congenital heart disease
- Long-term steroid medication use
- Hormonal disorders: growth hormone, thyroid hormone, insulin, sex hormones, adrenocortical hormones, etc.

3. Dwarfism may be suspected if height increases by less than 4 cm per year during the growth period, or if the final adult height is below 120 cm.
