First Lady Kim Yun-ok Encourages Children with Rare and Incurable Diseases First Lady Kim Yun-ok visited Korea University Guro Hospital on the 7th to encourage child patients battling rare and incurable diseases and donated a portion of the proceeds from the Presidential Office Bazaar held in May as treatment expenses. Mrs. Kim has been sponsoring the treatment costs of pediatric patients with economic difficulties and rare and intractable diseases who have been treated at Korea University Guro Hospital every month since October 2008. In this visit, she encouraged two patients who were being re-hospitalized for treatment among existing sponsored patients and two newly sponsored patients. Mrs. Kim met with rare and incurable child patients and their guardians who were hospitalized in the pediatric and orthopedic wards, respectively, and said, “No matter how difficult and challenging the illness is, there will be good results if you fight with strong will and hope. You may be tired and exhausted from the long and arduous battle, but never lose hope and be sure to overcome it.” She then spent time participating in the music therapy program for the child patients held at the Namchon Dream Class (Psychotherapy Room). The encouragement visit was attended by Kim Woo-kyung, Director of Guro Hospital, Song Hae-ryong, Head of the Rare and Intractable Disease Center, and Yoo Ki-hwan, Deputy Director of Medical Affairs (Head of Pediatrics). Starting with the sponsorship of treatment costs for rare and intractable child patients, Mrs. Kim plans to continue using the proceeds from the Presidential Office Bazaar for child sponsorship.
