김연아의 'KB국민은행과 함께 하는 김연아의 엔젤스 온 아이스(Angels on Ice)' 자선 공연이 열린 25일 서울 목동아이스링크. 병원 앰뷸런스 한 대가 경기장에 도착하더니 침대에 누워 있던 어린아이가 힘겹게 몸을 일으켜 휠체어로 옮겨 앉았다. 연골무형성증이란 난치병을 앓고 있는 김강산(8)군. 강산이는 이날 '연아 누나'의 자선 공연에 특별 초대를 받았다.연골무형성증은 관절에 있는 성장판이 연골을 만들어내지 못해 뼈가 자라지 않는 병이다. 강산이의 현재 키는 1m6. 또래들보다 10㎝ 이상 작다. 이마저도 2년 전 '일리자로프'라고 불리는 수술을 받아 10㎝가량을 키운 것이다. 이 수술은 뼈를 자른 후 그 사이에 미세한 공간을 둬 뼈가 스스로 재생하게 한다. 인위적으로 뼈를 늘려 키를 크게 하는 것이다. 키가 약 10㎝ 크는 데 최소 6개월에서 1년이 걸린다. 다리에 기구를 박고 나사로 공간을 계속 조절해야 하기 때문. 수술 한 번에 들어가는 돈은 입원비를 포함, 2000만원에 달한다. 강산이는 3주 전 병원에서 허벅지 쪽에 같은 수술을 받았다. 다음엔 짧은 팔을 늘려야 한다. 지금은 팔이 짧아 대변조차 스스로 해결하기 힘들기 때문이다.강산이는 김연아 덕분에 오랜만에 환한 웃음을 지었다. 공연이 시작되자 강산이는 음악 박자에 맞춰 자라지 않는 작은 손으로 박수를 쳤다. 팔을 최대한 쭉 내밀어 힘겹게, 힘껏 쳤다. 또래의 피겨 선수들이 마음껏 아이스링크를 달릴 때는 부러움과 신기함이 섞인 표정으로 눈을 떼지 못했다.강산이는 이날 휠체어를 타고 아이스링크에 올라 성금을 받았다. KB국민은행 후원금 5000만원을 포함, 이날 모인 수익금 1억4363만7000원 전액은 강산이가 입원해 있는 고려대 구로병원 등 4개 병원에 어린이 환자 수술비로 전달된다.강산이 어머니 한국천(42)씨는 "오늘 김연아의 공연은 너무 훌륭했다"며 "강산이는 야구선수가 꿈인데 자기 마음대로 몸을 움직일 수가 없으니까 좋아하면서도 한편으론 속상해했다"고 말했다.**김강산군은 고대구로병원 송해룡교수님에게 수술받고 현재 병원에서 입원중이다.
