身高只有130cm,克服障碍成为美国顶尖医科大学教授的美国人访问了韩国。
他的信息是,身高不高,梦想依然可以远大。

身高只到普通人腰部的美国医生。
迎接和自己一样患有矮小症的患者。
“穿这么高的高跟鞋,膝盖和腰会疼的。”
约翰·霍普金斯医学院小儿整形外科的迈克尔·埃因教授。
因骨骼不生长而患有障碍,身高130厘米。
在嘲笑中长大,却怀揣着成为医生的梦想。
最终向30所医科大学递交申请,全部落榜,但第二年又向数十所大学递交申请,只有1所大学合格,这是梦想的开始。

“人们说个子矮的人不能当医生,让我找其他工作。但我不想因为这些话而放弃。”
韩国的矮小症团体邀请他的理由是,希望他能为准备进入社会的年轻患者提供帮助。

“以亲身经历为基础进行讲述,所以帮助很大……”
作为医生,利用研究自己疾病矮小症的经验,为患者提供治疗方法建议。
“希望大家都能实现梦想。如果梦想是当总统,那就应该能当上总统。”
韩国的矮小症患者有3千人。
虽然在社会上是少数,但埃因教授认为他们也应该实现梦想。

Michael Ain is an achondroplastic patient with a height of 130 cm.
He is also one of America’s most influential medical academics.
His message to fellow achondroplastic patients are that greatness of a man is not in physical stature.

He is a surgeon whose height reaches a normal person’s waist.
He welcomes patients who are just like him to the clinic.
“No high heels, no knee pain and no back pain”
Michael Ain is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon from the John Hopkins Hospital Children’s Centre.
Due to retardation of bone growth, his height measures at only 130 cm.
Despite the disability and being ridiculed since young, his dream was to become a doctor.
To chase his dream, he made applications to 30 different medical schools, but all were rejected.
Dr. Ain was however undeterred and made another 30 in the following year.
Of the many, only one accepted him, allowing him to persue his medical career.

“They told me that I will never be a doctor, and I should try something else. Just because you are told no, it doesn’t mean that you are going to listen.”
His courage and unfaltering will is of great inspiration to many achondroplastic patients.
For this reason, Dr. Ain was invited by the Little People of Korea Achondroplasia to give a speech to aspiring young patients entering the workforce.

Currently, there are 3,000 patients suffering from achondroplasia in Korea.
They are a minority in today's society, however it is Dr. Ain's message that they too should be given opportunities to pursue their dream.
