[Busan Ilbo] Human Theater - Race Without Losers - Giguk's Family
Starting from the 19th, 'Human Theater' will feature the story of the Ki-guk family, who touched the world with a single photograph titled 'A Race Without Last Place'. October 2014, a fall sports day photo that touched the nation. In the photo titled 'A Race Without Last Place', five children are holding hands tightly. Ki-guk (13) always came in last for five years due to his shorter arms and legs compared to his peers. However, the last fall sports day of 6th grade was different. The four friends who ran ahead waited for Ki-guk, who was running last, and held hands in front of the finish line. All five were in first place. Ki-guk is a small boy of 120cm tall in 6th grade of elementary school. He was born with congenital achondroplasia, a disability, being the only one among his normal parents and sisters. His mother, Lee Eun-ah (51), feels guilty thinking that giving birth to Ki-guk at the old age of 39 might be the cause, or that she took medicine without knowing she was pregnant until the 3rd month, and that Ki-guk was born as a disabled child with a mutated chromosome, always carrying a heavy stone in her heart. One day, in the 7th month of pregnancy, she was diagnosed with a disability. The father even had the cruel thought of not having the child, but he couldn't abandon the child, and instead, he prayed every morning. Ki-guk, who was born after many twists and turns, was like a jewel. However, before he turned one, the family began to notice that Ki-guk's development was different from other children. His head grew bigger, and his arms and legs did not grow. Ki-guk, the youngest son who is like a daughter at home, is full of charm and has a kind heart, a son who is too precious to lose. The family never stops laughing because of Ki-guk, but as Ki-guk grows up, conflicts between family members deepen. The family unintentionally hurts each other over the issue of surgery for his increasingly curved legs, and Ki-guk is worried alone, feeling that this discord is his fault. Ki-guk enters middle school this March. Before entering middle school, the mother and the eldest daughter, Hanna (28), took Ki-guk to a large hospital. At the hospital, they hear bad news that his left leg is becoming more curved. There are many things to resolve, such as who will take Ki-guk to the hospital instead of Hanna, who got a job after graduating from college, and how to pay for the hospital bills. KBS 1TV 'Human Theater' 'Fly, Ki-guk!' will be broadcast from Monday the 19th to the 23rd at 7:50 AM.
